Welcome to History
Does History Matter?
The Fernhill History Department believes that the study of History is vital. We want to teach our students their nation’s story. We want to teach them about appropriate respect for democracy, rule of law and mutual respect by investigating key events in our past and world events that bring us to where we are today. In this way History ignites students’ curiosity and imagination as we learn about the dilemmas, choices and beliefs of people in the past. History is so important because by studying the past it helps students to develop their own identities at personal, local, national and international levels. Our students will be faced with making tough decisions in their future as adults, it would be good to think they can recall how similar decisions were dealt with in the past and hopefully learn from them. We love hands on History at Fernhill. We have structured our bespoke programme of study called the POS to encourage students to follow the study of History from year 7 to year 11.
