Year 7 Curriculum Map

 

 During the students' time in Year 7 they will experience a wide range of different activities, covering all areas of the National Curriculum.

The students are taught in tutor groups, giving them to chance to build relationships with those closes to them, when they are starting a new school.  Some of the activities the students will be taught will be familiar to them.  However, many will be new. 

Across the year the students will be taught a variety of skills across different activities such as Tag Rugby, Basketball, Netball, Table Tennis, Dance, Tennis, Gymnastics, Athletics, Rounders and Ultimate Frisbee.  Once those skills have been embedded, the students will be given the chance to apply those skills to a competitive situation, through playing matches and adapted games.

Year 8 Curriculum Map

 

During Year 8 the students will be set into ability groups, based on their performance during Year 7.  During this time, the PE department would have been continuously assessing the students, giving us a better idea and understanding of each student's abilities.

This has proved to be successful over the past year as many students show more progress when they are working alongside students of a similar ability. 

Across the year the students will revisit some of the activities they would have studied during Year 7, but developing and building on their knowledge, skill and understanding.  As well as being taught a number of new activities, such as Volleyball, Softball, Trampolining and Handball.

Year 9 Curriculum Map

 

The students will be set in ability groups as they were during Year 8. 

During Year 9 the students will continue to be taught a varied curriculum, being taught more advanced skills and techniques, as well as developing their knowledge, understanding and tactical abilities for applying to competitive game play.

An addition to the curriculum during Year 9 is classroom based theory lessons.  This is to show the students the other side of Physical Education, and the importance of understanding how the body works, how best to train and make improvements in your sports.  This also gives the students an insight into some of the content they would be studying if they were to take PE at GCSE in Year 10.  We feel this helps the students, as it starts to build a foundation of knowledge for the students to build on if they do decide to study PE at GSCE level.
